The Ann Arbor Public Schools Educational Foundation was established in 1991 and has awarded nearly a million dollars in program grants and scholarships to the Ann Arbor Public Schools. Changing funding models at the state level, along with an economic downturn, are hampering our school district's ability to provide extra programs that make Ann Arbor schools better than “average”. More than that, funding reductions and increased state and federal mandates (without associated funding) are hampering the Ann Arbor Public School's ability to maintain programs. The Ann Arbor Public Schools Educational Foundation has a long history of raising funds for exceptional causes, and today we have evolved into a vital part of the future of Ann Arbor public education. |

A paradigm shift is happening in the approach to supplementing public education with private funding that follows the model public universities established 30-40 years ago. In fact, there are currently more than 4,800 Educational Foundations across the United States with more being established every week. The following school districts in Washtenaw County have volunteer or staffed educational foundations: Ann Arbor, Chelsea, Dexter ,Lincoln, Manchester, Saline and Ypsilanti. Here is a link to a list of other education foundations across the country. Take a look at what others are doing! |
