Each year, The Ann Arbor Public Schools Educational Foundation focuses on innovative, cutting edge programs that have shown proven success in order to achieve impressive and immediate results.

- The Educational Foundation provides funding for "Initiatives for Excellence" programs designed to enable students, teachers and the community to thrive. Grant funding for Initiatives for Excellence generally exceed $5,000 and follow the AAPSEF guiding principle of applying to "all students, all schools./"
- The Educational Foundation raises funds and awards Great Idea Grants for teachers in order to help motivated teachers fulfill their goals for innovative programs. AAPS staff apply for grant funding up to $1,000 on an annual basis. Grants funded may apply to a single classroom, grade or school.
- The Village Fund Initiative (VFI) of the AAPSEF grants variable amounts of funding (from direct donor gifts to this fund) for social inclusion needs at economically impacted schools.
- The Karen Thomas Memorial Fund of the AAPSEF was established in early 2008. The Fund honors Karen’s profound love of reading, and her belief that literacy is essential to a successful and fulfilling life. The Fund will sponsor literacy and academic retention programs for children at the elementary level with an emphasis on academically at risk students.
