Priority Health Cycling Classic Benefits Ann Arbor Public Schools Educational Foundation
The Event
The Inaugural Priority Health Ann Arbor Cycling Classic drew thousands of spectators and some of the nation's elite athletes to downtown Ann Arbor. More than 200 cyclists competed in the pro-am cycling race around the 1.35 kilometer circuit, reaching speeds of almost 40 miles per hour. The Priority Health Ann Arbor Cycling Classic featured a $30,000 purse with a series of six separate races. Riders from the Priority Health Cycling Team were among the athletes to compete. The Saint Joseph Mercy Medical Group Kids Race featured four races for children ages 9 and under. Nearly 100 kids participated as they rode their bikes around the race course in downtown Ann Arbor. The Breakaway VIP Club took place at an exclusive viewing area on the roof of Palio Restaurant above the Classic’s start/finish lines. All proceeds from the event were donated to the Ann Arbor Public Schools Educational Foundation to be directed exclusively toward physical and wellness education programs in The Ann Arbor Public Schools.
“The Ann Arbor Public Schools Project Healthy Schools initiative has made great strides in ensuring that healthy snacks, lunchroom menus and in-school and extracurricular fitness options are available to students,” said Todd Roberts, Ed.D., superintendent for Ann Arbor Public Schools. “As a result, support from Priority Health will touch all students. On behalf of the Ann Arbor Public Schools, we applaud Priority Health for their involvement and concern for our students’ health.” |
